The Department of Natural Resources has made numerous changes to fishing regulations.

There have been changes to the number, size and species of fish anglers can keep nationwide and statewide.

Isaac Hackett, a local DNR ranger, joined WOMT’s Be My Guest to weigh in and explain the change that affects all inland waters in Wisconsin.

“The statewide walleye regulations changed to three, which was probably a big change for a lot of people. Whereas before the bag limit was a bit more liberal.”

Manitowoc County has made three changes, all on Lake Wilke.

You may keep one largemouth bass and one smallmouth bass, but it must be at least 18 inches long.

You can keep two northern pike of any length, except fish 25 to 35 inches long.

For walleye, each fish must be at least 18 inches long. In Oconto County, new regulations for Lake Rost and Westcott now allow bass of any length to be kept, with a limit of five.

Anglers can review all of the DNR’s new fishing regulations on its website.
