A roundup of the latest travel accessories and gadgets for 2024, including the latest hand luggage find

With the main travel season of the year already here, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at my latest purchases and favorite travel gadgets you might want to buy for your trip.

New hand luggage – foldable backpack/bag on wheels

I hate bus gates and walking up stairs with a heavy bag. I have knee problems and carrying a heavy bag up stairs is not easy. I find it much easier to use a backpack, but carrying it around the airport or standing in line can be a pain. So I did some research and found my new favorite carry-on in the form of this clever convertible backpack from Amazon.

It has two wheels and a T-handle so it can be used like a two-wheeled suitcase. However, when you have a bus gate, you simply unzip the compartment to free the back straps and connect them to the base of the bag. Now you have a backpack. It is comfortable to wear and I find it much easier than carrying a heavy bag up the stairs by hand.

I was impressed with how the bag is constructed with many individual compartments so you can find things easily. I can put as much in it as a regular carry-on suitcase, and all the pockets make it easier for me to find things.

It has two pockets on the front where you can fit e.g. a bag with liquids, a passport or other things you want to have at hand.

Behind it is a large flat compartment that can be completely unzipped, making it easier to take things out. This is ideal for files or books.

Then there is the main, lockable compartment with a capacity of 45 liters, which has a separate laptop pocket that will fit laptops up to 18 inches in the larger size or 17 inches in the smaller version. There’s a water bottle holder on each side. The bag also weighs in at a very reasonable 2.4kg.

You can buy it on Amazon here, with the larger version costing £64.99 and the smaller one costing £53.99.

Mobile phone holder

It’s a great alternative to a folding table or holding your cell phone if you want to watch something on a plane. It can also be used to secure your cell phone in a variety of places, such as your car, desk, or even your suitcase. The clamp securely attaches to tables, luggage handles, exercise equipment, and more. It fits most phone sizes and folds down to a very small size in your bag.

You can find it on Amazon here, on offer for £7.99 here.

Mobile phone charger

I love these tiny chargers because you don’t need a cable to connect them to your phone, they charge much faster than clip-on ones, and they’re very lightweight. You can still use your phone while it’s charging. It contains enough to fully charge most iPhones.

It’s available on Amazon here and includes a 15% off coupon.

Portable steamer

If, like me, you hate ironing and always find that hotel irons leak or leave marks on your clothes, then this is for you. A portable steamer will cover most clothes and is lightweight. You don’t need an ironing board and you can simply run the steamer over the clothes on the hanger, which will help freshen them up and also get rid of any creases.

This Tefal is £39 if you want the best, or I have a cheaper generic model here for £17.

Electric toothbrush

I have a separate electric toothbrush for travel because it takes up less space, weighs less, and runs on batteries, so you don’t have to charge it. I have a Sonisk that works 31,000 beats per minute means and has antibacterial vibrating bristles and a cap that keeps it clean. It runs on one AAA battery that lasts up to 90 days of brushing.

You can buy it here for £13.99.
