Not Flour, Only Wheat to be Given Under ‘Ghar Ghar Rationing Scheme’: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday announced that the government will provide only wheat to the beneficiaries of the ‘Ghar Ghar ration scheme’ and not wheat or flour of their choice. The state had earlier decided to offer either wheat or flour to the beneficiaries.

Addressing a state-level function to commemorate the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Mann said he did not want to take any decision that was not in the interest of the nation.

“We will now give wheat, not ‘atta’ (flour) for four months,” he said, specifying that the wheat would be distributed from July to October this year. Mann said: “The public says they only want wheat. We will give it. The regime is acting in accordance with the wishes of the people.”

Around 1.54 crore people in Punjab are currently benefiting from the Ghar Ghar ration scheme.

In addition to changes to the food rationing system, Mann highlighted the government’s upcoming recruitment campaign. “The state government will soon recruit 10,000 personnel in the Punjab Police and a notification in this regard has already been issued.”

Mann expressed the government’s commitment to reverse migration trends by empowering the youth in the state. He criticized opposition parties, suggesting that they were wrong about the stability of his administration.

“Rival political parties are building castles in the air, claiming that his government is unstable and will collapse soon. The AAP government will complete its term with the support of the people,” Mann assured.

Mann, referring to the issue of development, indicated that he did not intend to apply for central funds for projects. “The state will generate its own resources,” he said and accused the BJP-led Center of being biased as Punjab did not elect any BJP representative in the Lok Sabha elections.

Mann concluded by linking his government’s policies to the legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. His administration intends to follow in the footsteps of Maharaja Ranjit Singh to “ensure the welfare of every section of society.”

“AAP admits rationing system error”

Partap Singh Bajwa, leader of the Opposition in Punjab, said on Saturday that the Aam Aadmi Party government had admitted its mistake and corrected it by discontinuing the Ghar Ghar Ration Scheme. According to Bajwa, beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act will now be getting whole grains in their ration depots, indicating that common sense has prevailed.

Bajwa said, “I have been critical of CM Bhagwant Mann’s government since September 2022 when it decided to serve ‘atta’ at their doorstep instead of whole wheat in ration stores. The Ghar Ghar ration was a scheme to please corporate houses and put thousands of warehouse owners out of work.”

The Opposition leader also pointed out that this is not the first time the AAP government has changed its decision. Bajwa mentioned that the government had prematurely dissolved panchayats last year but overturned the decision after the intervention of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
