Manny Pangilinan Chooses Emmanuel Rubio to Lead Renewable Energy Expansion

Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen), an investment unit of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) in power generation, has named Emmanuel V. Rubio as its new president and chief executive officer, effective July 1, 2024.

According to Manuel V. Pangilinan, Meralco president and CEO, Rubio’s appointment marks a strategic move as MGen pursues growth opportunities aimed at delivering long-term value not only to the company but also to local communities and the broader national economy.

“We look forward to leveraging his fresh perspectives and innovative ideas as we strive to make MGen a reliable partner in achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” Pangilinan said.

Rubio joins MGen with solid experience, having previously served as president and CEO of Aboitiz Power Corp., where he led the company’s transformation to sustainable energy sources and significantly expanded its renewable energy portfolio. His leadership at AboitizPower was characterized by significant achievements and strategic initiatives in various leadership positions within the organization.

At MGen, Rubio’s mandate includes overseeing the company’s strategic plans aligned with government actions to enhance energy security and achieve global sustainability goals. Key priorities under his leadership will focus on expanding MGen’s presence in the renewable energy sector, including developing a planned integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and adding 1,500 MW of renewable energy capacity.

Rubio succeeds Jaime T. Azurin, who will continue to serve as president of Global Business Power Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of MGen.
