Residents opposed to plans to build a photovoltaic farm protested against the resubmission of the plan.

In February, a judicial review overturned Durham County Council’s decision to approve Lightsource bp’s proposals for a 92-hectare site near Burnhope.

Activists say the new app is the same size and contains the same number of panels (110,640) as the previous one.

The company announced the introduction of changes, including: improving road lanes and landscaping to minimize negative impact on the appearance of the area.

About 100 people carrying banners and posters showed up at the rally.

One activist said he felt “trampled on by big business that doesn’t care about the community or our local environment.”

They were also concerned that the council was “actively supporting” the project, which involves the construction of 14 paneled fields, including areas around the popular nature reserve.

Request for lower bills

Durham County Council said it had received updated information and the application would be considered in accordance with its “standard procedure”.

Michael Kelleher, director of planning and housing, said this would include consultation with local residents and other interested parties.

He added: “All responses… will be carefully considered before the application is considered.”

Lightsource bp reported that the project would bring benefits to the community of around $500,000. pounds and millions of pounds in lower property tax rates.

“It would also help reduce electricity bills and address climate change.”
