Legal fireworks within Auburn city limits are only permitted on July 4 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. Legal fireworks are also permitted from 6 p.m. on December 31 to 1 a.m. on January 1.

You must be at least 16 years old to purchase legal fireworks. Legal fireworks include party firecrackers, booby traps, snappers, sparklers, cylindrical and conical fountains, light torches, wheels, ground spinners, twinkling sparklers and smoke devices.

Illegal fireworks include all aerial devices, aerial rockets, rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, Roman candles, mines and missiles, firecrackers and salutes, speeder cars and jumping jacks. According to the city, anything that comes off the ground or causes a report/explosion is illegal in Auburn.

The Auburn Police Department will penalize those who use fireworks illegally, with fines of up to $1,000 and 90 days in jail. Those who recklessly set off fireworks face a fine of $5,000 and a year in jail. Anyone caught in possession of a device containing more than 2 grains of pyrotechnic charge (such as M80) could be charged with a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Citizens can help the city with this increased pressure by calling the non-emergency number at 253-288-2121 when fireworks are being illegally set off in their neighborhood.
