Top players: Construction and engineering industry’s biggest nominations in June 2024

As everyone waits for the real heat to arrive, many construction and engineering companies are changing their employees.

The high-speed rail group has made some major changes to its High Speed ​​1 (HS1) railway, while Balfour Beatty, Mace and Vinci have also made some strategic moves.

HS1 has a new finance director

HS1 Ltd. has appointed Virginie Merle as its new Chief Financial Officer as it continues to develop the UK’s only high-speed international rail link.

Virginie, who has been Keolis’ UK, Middle East and India CFO for the past few years, will take up her role at HS1 in September 2024, replacing Claire Howling, HS1’s interim CFO. Claire will remain with the company in her new position as CFO.

HSRG appoints a new director

The high-speed rail group has expanded its board with a new director, Mattias Bjornfors from HS1.

Bjornfors brings almost 20 years of experience as an economist in the infrastructure and regulatory industries. In his current role as Director of Strategy and Regulation at HS1 Ltd, operator of St Pancras International, Stratford, Ebbsfleet and Ashford stations and the London to Channel Tunnel high-speed rail link, Bjornfors is responsible for business development, customer relations and regulatory processes.

Balfour Beatty appoints new CEO of UK Construction Services

Balfour Beatty has announced that Nick Crossfield will join the group later this year as general manager of its UK construction services division.

Crossfield will provide strategic leadership for UK business Balfour Beatty Construction Services, delivering its business plans and focusing on further developing its presence in the growing infrastructure market – spanning the energy, defence and sustainable transport sectors – as the first choice partner for major clients such as Scape, the Environment Agency, the NHS and Rolls Royce, as well as local authorities.

Vinci adds talent to the executive committee

Virginie Leroy was appointed to Vinci’s executive committee as of June 1.

After graduating from the École polytechnique and École des Ponts ParisTech (formerly École nationale des ponts et chaussées), Leroy joined Vinci Immobilier in 2010 as head of business real estate projects. She continually moved through multiple leadership positions and became CEO of Vinci Immobilier in August 2023.

Mott MacDonald appoints head of transport for Western Australia

John Macaulay has joined Mott MacDonald as transport manager for Western Australia.

Based in Perth, Macauley is focused on growing Mott MacDonald’s business and increasing its involvement in major transport projects in the west.

Macauley, previously Aecom Group Director in Western Australia, will bring strategic and values-based leadership to the company and a proven track record of over 30 years of consulting experience in Australia, the UK, the Middle East and Turkey.

Mace makes two senior executive appointments

Mace has made two senior management appointments across its construction engine to drive growth in two of its global markets, with Rob Lemming and Alister Gray becoming managing directors of public sector and life sciences and managing directors of technology and manufacturing respectively.

Bentley Systems has appointed a new senior director of user success for Europe, the Middle East and Asia

After 19 years at Costain, Lydia Walpole joins Bentley Systems as Senior Director, User Success, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Walpole is a certified civil engineer who completed his MBA in 2019.

In 2011-2012 she was an intern for the President of ICE, and in 2015 she won the award in the category “Best Young Woman in the Construction Industry” at the European WICE Awards.

Murphy Geospatial Announces Three New Managing Directors

Murphy Geospatial has announced three new managing directors: David Graham has now taken up the role of managing director for Ireland after 25 years with the company, Richard Glenn is now managing director for the UK and, due to the huge growth of the division’s industry, Andrew Masters as managing director for monitoring.

National Nuclear Laboratory has a new chief operating officer

The National Nuclear Laboratory has announced Ola Wignall as its new chief operating officer.

Wignall joins the National Nuclear Laboratory’s leadership team, taking responsibility for shaping and driving performance excellence and the effective execution of the National Nuclear Laboratory’s work across all of its sites.

National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland appoints two staff to non-executive board

The National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland has strengthened its non-executive board with the appointment of highly experienced and influential industry leaders Neil Logan and Allan Cook.

The duo brings broad leadership in engineering, manufacturing and digital entrepreneurship to the board.

BSRIA appoints new CEO

BSRIA has appointed a new CEO, Lisa Ashworth, who will be tasked with driving forward the company’s growth ambitions.

Ashworth joins BSRIA with extensive experience leading technology-enabled data and information businesses.

With a career marked by work at organizations such as the Financial Times, PR Newswire, Frost and Sullivan and Reevoo/Feefo, Ashworth has a track record of success in growing businesses across a variety of sectors. In addition to extensive operational experience, he has extensive experience in establishing and developing companies internationally.

Akela Ground Engineering appoints a new managing director

After a successful year with the company, Akela Ground Engineering has appointed Will Payne as Managing Director.

Previously, Payne worked for Roger Bullivant, where he managed and supervised the implementation of piling projects in the Midlands, East Anglia and Gibraltar.
