Jagadish sniffs out Congo plot to privatize energy sector

Hyderabad: On Sunday, the BRS reported that the government was planning to privatize the country’s electricity sector, part of the plot being to hand over responsibility for collecting energy bills to private companies.

Addressing a press conference, BRS legislator G Jagadish Reddy said the government was considering handing over the collection of electricity bills to private companies. CM A Revanth Reddy had planned to hand over the collection of these bills to Adani. “The consumption of electricity bills by private individuals was not limited to Old City, which is a pilot project. The collection of bills of the entire state will be in private hands,” he alleged.

The former energy minister said that the government is taking steps to privatize the energy sector. “Electricity subsidies and free power for farmers will no longer exist in the state. Although the KCR government was under pressure, the power sector was never handed over to private individuals. Revanth Reddy is working under the guidance of the central government and Prime Minister Modi, he alleged.

‘Modi and Adani’s policies are being implemented by Revanth Reddy in Telangana. Power companies are publicly owned; they are not for individuals.

Revanth Reddy claims that only 45 per cent of electricity bills are collected in the Old City; hence the collection of bills was entrusted to private individuals. In Telangana, around 95-97 per cent of electricity bills are collected. In a way, Revanth Reddy is insulting the people of Old City,” Reddy said.

He aggressively attacked Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, stating that though he had participated in the tender for the Singareni coal mines, KCR had never participated in the tender process.

The government says it will provide free electricity to up to 200 units. Reddy noted that there are more households in Old City whose electricity bills are less than 200 units.
