Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticizes the push to create a single, superintelligent artificial intelligence

Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his disapproval of the tech industry’s desire to develop a single, super-intelligent artificial general intelligence (AGI) that exceeds human capabilities.

During a recent interview with YouTuber Kane Sutter, Zuckerberg expressed his concerns, describing the goal of creating “one true AI” as unrealistic and comparing it to the effort to “create God.” He noted that this idea was impractical because it did not take into account people’s diverse needs and interests.

Zuckerberg called for the creation of different AIs designed to handle different tasks and address a range of interests. He criticized the use of closed AI platforms and emphasized the advantages of open-source AI.

He believes that open source tools are valuable because they offer wider access and encourage people to develop different AIs to meet their own or others’ needs.

Challenges, Optimism in AI Journey to Meta

Meta has faced several challenges on its AI journey, such as Apple’s refusal to enable Meta’s AI systems and the influx of AI-generated content on Facebook.

For Meta, Zuckerberg said they are currently working on Llama 3, an open-source large language model (LLM) that is intended to provide a foundation for developers, researchers and companies to create their own artificial intelligence tools.
