Apple Files patent application titled ‘Stretchable Display’ aimed at bringing to market devices with screens that can be stretched rather than folded: reports

Cupertino, July 1: Over the years, Apple has brought groundbreaking technology to smartphones and computers with its iPhone and Mac systems. The tech giant recently announced major changes to its software, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS Sequoia, watchOS and more. The company called the new system Apple Intelligence, which finally introduced much-needed features based on machine learning.

Apple has also been called out for its ‘slow’ rollout of these features compared to other companies in the market. However, the new features, groundbreaking enough, have brought the company back to the mainstream. Now, rumors are rife that Apple is working on another display revolution. Apple is yet to launch its first foldable phone; however, this time, Apple might skip the idea and introduce a ‘stretchable’ display in its upcoming devices. According to report By AppleInsider, “Apple is working on stretchable displays” for its upcoming smartphone. The report mentioned that the upcoming ‘iPhone Fold’ may have a display that can stretch, unlike other foldable smartphones available in the market. According to other reports, Apple filed approx patent in the United States, which suggested possible innovations that will appear in the smartphone market, especially in the new iPhone category.

Apple is expected to replace the iPad Mini with its new foldable iPad in 2026. The same goes for the Macbook Pro, which may be replaced by the tech giant with a foldable iPad. From the foldable iPhone to the foldable iPad and the foldable Macbook, the tech giant has been rumored to release devices that can “fold.” However, the report said that the term “foldable” may not be appropriate as the company has veered off track by releasing its devices with “stretchable displays.” Oppo A3 presented before the premiere on July 2; check details here.

The report highlighted that the patent filed in the US contained 13 images and 22 pages. He mentioned that the entire patent application was a light example of how stretchable displays could be used. Such stretchable Apple displays could be used in smaller devices such as Apple Watch, iPhones, Macbooks and others. Apple is expected to reveal more details in the coming months once development stages become clear.
