Gwarube replaces Motshekga and DA gets 12 cabinet positions

Motshekga was appointed Minister of Defence and Military Veterans in the latest leadership appointments announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa announced the new cabinet on Sunday evening after days of negotiations with partners in the government of national unity.

In a significant development for the DA, the party secured 12 cabinet positions.

Solly Malatsi, the party’s spokesman, is currently head of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technologies.

Party leader John Steenhuisen takes over as Minister of Agriculture.

Dean Macpherson was appointed Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Leon Schreiber became Home Secretary, and Dion George became head of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

AD also secured six deputy minister positions in various capacities:

Ashor Sarupen is the Deputy Minister of Finance.

Samantha Graham-Maré has been appointed Deputy Minister of Energy and Electricity.

Jane Sithole is Deputy Minister for Small Business Development.

Dr Mimmy Gondwe takes up the position of Deputy Minister of Higher Education.

Andrew Whitfield is Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Competition.

Sello Seitlholo has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister for Water and Sanitation.
