ForFarmers takes over Van Triest Veevoeders

ForFarmers has entered into an agreement to acquire Van Triest Veevoeders (Van Triest), which specializes in trading residual flows and by-products.

The acquisition concerns the purchase and sale activities, including the related warehousing and transshipment infrastructure and means of transport. ForFarmers, under the name CirQlar, already actively supplies by-products and residual flows. This acquisition is in line with ForFarmers’ mission: by using more by-products, it contributes to a sustainable future with affordable and sustainable food through the production of dairy, meat and eggs.

Van Triest has been trading in residual waste and by-products since 1959. The company has purchase agreements with breweries, the dairy, sugar, bioethanol and potato processing industries, and, when it comes to roughage, with many farmers. It sells its products, including brewer’s grain, potato pulp, silage maize and wet beet pulp, to approximately 3,500 farmers, mainly in the Netherlands, but also in Belgium and Germany. Van Triest has very good infrastructure in terms of logistics, storage and transshipment, and the possibility of mixing residual flows in Hoogeveen and Coevorden. Van Triest handles over 1 million tonnes of residual waste annually and employs 90 people.

An important step in a sustainable market segment

ForFarmers, under the name CirQlar, operates in the Netherlands in the supply and valorization of by-products and has storage and transhipment sites in Lochem and Heijen. Van Triest’s locations and customer base fit perfectly with ForFarmers’ operations and offer good growth opportunities. This transaction strengthens cooperation with suppliers of residual flows and by-products to effectively make the food chain more sustainable. These products, which are not suitable for human consumption, can often be used to produce nutritious feed for cows, pigs and chickens.

“We are looking forward to working with our new colleagues from Van Triest,” said Pieter Wolleswinkel, CEO of ForFarmers. “Combining our operations means we can handle our suppliers’ by-products even better and provide our customers with an even better and wider range of by-products. We are also taking another step towards making our food chain more sustainable.”

Subject to approval by the Consumer and Market Authority, ForFarmers will acquire the shares of Van Triest, a company engaged in trading and related transport equipment and storage and transshipment activities. Completion of the transaction is expected in the second half of 2024. The purchase price will be paid in full in cash; further financial details will not be disclosed. Van Triest management will remain actively involved after the closing of the transaction.
