ACCIONA Energía and Prologis join forces to boost distributed solar power in Spain

ACCIONA Energía announced today an agreement with Prologis, a world leader in logistics real estate, to install solar panels on the roofs of several of its facilities in Spain.

ACCIONA Energía will install up to 10.5 MWp of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of Prologis warehouses and buildings, transforming them into clean and sustainable solar power plants. This community solar power will be owned by Prologis, and ACCIONA Energía will be responsible for their installation, operation and maintenance for 10 years.

The energy generated will be used to meet the energy needs of Prologis customers, accelerating decarbonization in the logistics sector, and will also serve as community solar power for local neighbors. This will allow residents within a two-kilometer radius to consume some of the energy through shared consumption plans, enabling them to save on their electricity bills while contributing to the environment through the use of 100% renewable electricity.

The first two solar installations will be located in Penedès (Barcelona) and San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) and will have a capacity of 2.5 MWp and 3 MWp respectively. These two installations alone will prevent 3,300 tons of CO2 emissions per year thanks to the use of local, clean energy.

With this agreement, Prologis is meeting its sustainability goals and ESG criteria. The company has more than 500 MW of solar capacity, which is half of its 1 GW target by 2025. This is key to helping its customers achieve their sustainability goals. “We are a company that, given the current energy transition, is constantly working and innovating, introducing new sustainable formulas to apply in our logistics parks, such as this alliance with ACCIONA Energía. Our Net Zero 2040 program offers us a realistic timeline for achieving our sustainability goals and includes a continuous assessment of the carbon footprint of all our buildings, allowing us to develop an action plan for the coming years,” explains Cristian Oller, Director of Asset Management Southern Europe at Prologis.

Meanwhile, ACCIONA Energía confirms its commitment to increasing self-consumption and decentralized energy production in order to decarbonize the logistics and transport sectors, as well as Spanish homes. The company offers energy services to corporate clients and public entities in Spain, and since last year has expanded its activities to individual clients and small and medium-sized enterprises
