Goodwin Acquires Washington Antitrust Duo | Natasha Doris

The firm has hired two lawyers from Morrison & Foerster.

Dobrywin hired antitrust lawyers David Cross AND Mary Kaiser as partners in the Washington, D.C. office. The firm announced their arrival on Monday (July 9) Morrison & Foersterwhere Cross chaired the antitrust litigation practice and Kaiser was a partner.

Cross has experience as a First Chairman litigator and focuses on antitrust and competition law, commercial litigation, class actions, and intellectual property matters. He specializes in emerging antitrust matters, including the intersection of competition law and emerging technologies such as AI, big data monetization, and online marketplaces. Cross represents corporate clients including Uber, DuPont, Oracle, CSX Transport AND John Deere He represents and defends clients in federal and state courts, arbitrations, and government investigations, and counsels clients on the full spectrum of antitrust matters, including competitive collaboration, multi-sided markets, and algorithmic pricing.

Kaiser focuses her practice on complex antitrust litigation, including group boycotts, price fixing, monopolization and refusal to deal, as well as antitrust counterclaims in intellectual property matters. She also has experience in the media, consumer products and software industries. Her client base includes U.S. and international corporations, and she has previously represented Nextstar Media Group, Sumitomo Electric, Deliver AND Cedar AIHe also advises clients on antitrust compliance matters, including the Robinson-Patman Act and pricing strategies.

Cross began his legal career in Weil Gotshal and Manges in 2002 and left the company Crowell and Moring in 2006. He worked at the firm for nine years and rose to partner before moving to Morrison & Foerster in 2015. Kaiser joined Crowell & Moring in 2013 and worked with Cross before leaving the firm with him to join Morrison & Foerster.

Co-Chair of Goodwin’s Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Karolina Bullerjahn said in a statement, “Over the past several years, we have significantly expanded our global antitrust platform and broadened our reach into new industries ripe for regulation and enforcement.” She continued, “David and Mary are highly skilled litigators with extensive experience and proven track records in antitrust litigation, particularly in areas where Goodwin has a strong bench and expertise—intellectual property, technology, and mergers and acquisitions.” Bullerjahn concluded that their “collective expertise will be a significant asset to the firm’s diverse client base, especially as antitrust regulators increasingly seek new theories of harm.”

Cross added that the two lawyers joined Goodwin because the firm “provides an ideal platform to further grow our practice,” while Kaiser said the duo intends to “help clients across a variety of industries navigate the rapidly changing antitrust enforcement environment.”

The partners’ arrival at Goodwin comes on the heels of Morrison & Foerster’s addition of five Goodwin lawyers to the firm’s global privacy and data security team in March of this year.
