Charged electric vehicles | Microchip offers new suite of on-board chargers for automotive-grade devices

Microchip Technology offers an on-board charger (OBC) package designed to help developers reduce time to market by leveraging key technologies from a single supplier, including control, gate drive and power stage.

The package uses a range of Microchip automotive-grade digital, analog, communications and power devices, including the dsPIC33C digital signal controller (DSC), MCP14C1 isolated SiC gate driver and mSiC MOSFETs, housed in a standard D2PAK-7L XL package.

To accelerate system development and testing, Microchip offers a flexible, programmable solution with ready-to-use software modules for power factor correction (PFC), DC-DC conversion, communications, and diagnostic algorithms. The software modules in the dsPIC33 DSC are designed to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability while offering the flexibility to customize and adapt to specific OEM requirements.

“Microchip has established an e-Mobility Megatrends team with resources dedicated to serving this growing market. This allows us to provide connectivity, timing, sensing, memory and security solutions to customers in addition to providing control, gate drive and power solutions for OBCs,” said Joe Thomsen, vice president of Microchip’s Digital Signal Controllers business unit.
