The Dynamics of Educational Freedom in 2024: Lisa B. Nelson on the ‘Hugh Hewitt Show’ – American Council on Legislative Exchange

“Over the last few years, we have finally seen momentum. We very much hope that Louisiana will be the next state in our 25 by 25.”

ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson joined The Hugh Hewitt Show today to discuss the universal freedom in education movement that is spreading across the states with the help of the Education Freedom Alliance (EFA). Nelson was joined by another EFA coalition leader, Elaine Parker of the Job Creators Network.

We have been advocating for educational freedom for a long time, and in the last few years we have finally seen momentum. We’re just excited to share information with people and organizations across the movement, both the Job Creators Network, Doug Ducey’s organization, Citizens for Free Enterprise, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity. Many conservative and philosophical organizations join our Alliance for Educational Freedom.

The most important thing is both getting the message out to the legislators who are passing this policy in their states, but more importantly, even engaging parents, students and families in their states so that they understand that they have a choice and they have the ability to make this happen in their standing.

Nelson later commented on which states, including Louisiana, are making progress on educational freedom.

All eyes should be on Louisiana. Their newly elected Governor Landry arrived in the slow year of 2023 and said I wanted to influence change in education choice and be part of this revolution. He has worked through this issue with his legislators. They passed it in the House of Representatives, and last night the Senate passed it in the Education Committee with a few amendments.

They’re still trying to work it out in the education committee. It will then go to the Appropriations Committee, then to the Senate, then back to the House of Representatives for final passage and to the governor’s desk for his signature. We very much hope that Louisiana will be the next state in our 25 for 25 years.
