Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled new tools aimed at encouraging developers to incorporate artificial intelligence-based technologies into Windows software.

In a bid to encourage developers to incorporate AI-powered technology into Windows software, Microsoft (MSFT.O) unveiled new tools on Tuesday. The company competes with Alphabet (GOOGL.O), Amazon.com (AMZN.O) and Apple (AAPL.O) for leadership in this rapidly growing field.

CEO Satya Nadella introduced new application programming interfaces, or APIs, that make it easier for developers to access Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology at a developer conference in Seattle.

According to Github, Copilot, Microsoft’s generative AI tool that increases developer productivity, is currently used by 1.8 million engineers.

During his keynote speech at the Build conference, Nadella said: “When I look back on the past year, I am struck by how all of you, as developers, have taken all of these opportunities and, quite frankly, are applying them to change the world around us.”

Microsoft showed off new capabilities for Teams, its video and text calling platform, and other business productivity apps like email. Copilot AI is software developed by Microsoft. Last week at a developer conference, Google, a division of Alphabet, revealed a similar set of artificial intelligence capabilities intended to help users use productivity applications.

Microsoft last week revealed the specifics of its new development tools.

After hitting a record high of $432.97 earlier in the session, Microsoft shares rose 1.2% to $430.67 on Tuesday afternoon.

Last Thursday, Microsoft announced that it would provide its cloud computing customers with an AMD AI processor platform that competes with Nvidia (NVDA.O), whose graphics processing units have become the industry standard for AI computing. This announcement was also addressed to developers.

AMD platform chips (AMD.O) were developed by Microsoft and connect processors via Nvidia’s Infiniband networking technology.

According to Microsoft Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott, developers can incorporate OpenAI’s new GPT4-o model, which runs on Microsoft infrastructure, into their products for 12 times less money than they could with previous iterations of the technology.

Microsoft is OpenAI’s largest supporter and is incorporating some of the industry leader’s technologies into its own offerings.

Microsoft on Monday unveiled a range of Copilot+ desktops with artificial intelligence (AI) features such as the ability to search a user’s past activities in almost any program. The new computers are equipped with Qualcomm (QCOM.O) processors (O9Ty.F) and ARM-based processors (O9Ty.F).
