Pegasus Shoppe, the beloved second-hand clothing boutique in Kingston Road Village in East Toronto, has embarked on an exciting new journey into the digital world with the recent launch of its online store.

The move follows a period of experimentation with various e-commerce platforms, including Poshmark, Facebook Marketplace and Etsy.

Brandon O’Connor, a Pegasus employee and the originator of the website development, shared his insight into the motivation behind this change.

According to O’Connor, establishing an online presence was driven by a desire to increase customer purchasing opportunities and raise funds for the Pegasus Community Project.

By offering a curated selection of products online, Pegasus aims to reach a wider audience and provide shoppers with greater convenience, regardless of location.

The expansion into the digital sphere is a natural evolution of the boutique, adapting to changing consumer preferences and the growing trend of online shopping.

The connection to the Pegasus community project distinguishes Pegasus Shoppe from other online retailers. For over thirty years, the Pegasus Community Project has been dedicated to providing essential services and supports to adults with developmental disabilities in Toronto.

Every purchase you make through Pegasus Shoppe directly contributes to funding these important initiatives, making it more than just a place to shop – it’s a platform to make a significant social impact.

As O’Connor explained, one of the key benefits of hosting your own e-commerce platform is the ability to keep costs low for customers. By avoiding the fees associated with third-party platforms, Pegasus can offer competitive prices while maintaining the quality and integrity of its products.

This direct-to-consumer approach benefits buyers and strengthens the bond between Pegasus and its loyal and geographically dispersed customers.

O’Connor’s involvement with Pegasus extends beyond his role as a web developer. He joined the organization about a year ago and initially volunteered to support a cause close to his heart.

With several family members diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, O’Connor’s personal connection to the mission of the Pegasus Community Project increases his commitment to the organization. Now he is excited to use his expertise in product photography and website development to further Pegasus’ mission and make a positive impact on the community.

Customers browsing the virtual aisles of Pegasus Shoppe will find a variety of offerings, from designer bags and high-quality digital cameras to unique home decor items and antiques. Each item was selected to reflect the style of the boutique.

O’Connor is especially fond of small home decor items and trinkets, which are often accompanied by stories about passing family heirlooms from generation to generation.

By adapting to the digital age, Pegasus can continue to support people with developmental disabilities while providing its offerings and services to store customers near and far.
