The higher renewable energy fee will affect electricity bills

The Ministry of Environment and Energy is considering increasing the levy paid by consumers in the form of electricity bills for renewable energy sources (ETMEAR) to address the deficit of the Special Account for Renewable Energy (ELAPE) before the situation completely derails.

The ELAPE deficit is growing every month and according to the latest unofficial estimates of the Administrator of Renewable Energy Sources (DAPEEP), it is expected to exceed EUR 600 million at the end of 2024, compared to the forecast of EUR 449.8 million in March and EUR 167 million at the end of 2023. This is due to de-escalation of wholesale electricity rates.
