Microsoft is promoting more tools for creating AI software

Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled additional tools to encourage developers to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into Windows software as it competes with Alphabet, Amazon and Apple for leadership in the growing industry, Reuters reports.

CEO Satya Nadella introduced new application programming interfaces, or APIs, that make it easier for developers to access Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology at a developer conference in Seattle.

Copilot, Microsoft’s generative AI tool that boosts developer productivity, is used by 1.8 million engineers, according to Github.

During his talk at the Build conference, Nadella stated, “When I think back on the last year, I’m struck by how all of you, as developers, have taken all of these opportunities and, quite frankly, are applying them to change the world around us.”

Microsoft has revealed new capabilities for Copilot AI, which enhances business productivity applications such as Teams, a video and text chat platform.

Last week at a developer conference, Alphabet-owned Google announced a similar set of artificial intelligence features to help users use productivity apps. Last week, new development tools from Microsoft were presented.

After hitting a record high of $432.97 earlier in the session, Microsoft shares rose 1.2% to $430.67 on Tuesday afternoon. So far in 2024, Microsoft shares are up 14%.

Last Thursday, Microsoft announced that it will provide its cloud computing customers with an AMD AI processor platform that will compete with Nvidia, whose graphics processing units have become the industry standard for AI computing. This announcement was also addressed to developers.

Microsoft’s AMD chip platform connects processors via Infiniband, a networking technology developed by Nvidia.

According to Microsoft Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott, developers can incorporate OpenAI’s new GPT4-o model, which runs on Microsoft infrastructure, into their products for 12 times less money than they could with previous versions of the technology.

The largest investor in OpenAI, Microsoft, uses some of the technologies from leading manufacturers in its products.

Microsoft on Monday unveiled a range of Copilot+ desktops with artificial intelligence (AI) features such as the ability to search a user’s past activities in almost any program. The latest PC computers use Qualcomm Arm processors.
