Entergy Louisiana Renewable Energy Expansion Approved by Louisiana Public Utilities Commission

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A state agency has approved an Entergy Louisiana expansion proposal to add up to three gigawatts of cost-effective solar energy to its generation portfolio.

Approval by the Louisiana Public Utilities Commission will begin the process of enabling the construction of multiple solar energy sources throughout Louisiana, according to a press release from Entergy Louisiana.

These new solar projects are expected to help local communities by creating jobs and additional tax revenues. According to a press release, the development will create new industries in Louisiana seeking clean energy as part of the expansion proposal.

“This approval underscores our commitment to meeting operational and sustainability needs, driving economic development and protecting the environment,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana.

Entergy Louisiana’s renewable energy expansion makes it the largest renewable energy expansion in Louisiana history.

According to a press release, this project represents a significant milestone for Entergy Louisiana as the company continues to update its power generation product portfolio with cleaner, more efficient and differentiated energy solutions to meet the needs of its customers.

Entergy Louisiana’s long-term plan includes additional investments in clean energy infrastructure, primarily utility-scale solar, as it becomes more economical, according to a press release.

“This is a significant victory for the future of our state,” May said. “I want to thank everyone who helped make this proposal a reality, including our local officials and regulators.”
