Tinubu transfers Wike’s ally to NOSDRA, appoints Ashiru as head of OORBDA

President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Engr. Chukwuemeki Woke as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA).

Tinubu also appointed Dr. Adedeji Ashiru as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA).

The appointments were revealed in a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

Ngelale noted that the CEO expects the new CEOs to delegate their responsibilities to these key agencies for sustainable gains and improvement, while maintaining maximum transparency in their activities.

Woke, former Chief of Staff to former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was on May 9 appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of OORBDA.

His appointment was met with condemnation as people and groups claimed that Woke was not from the South West region of the country.

In addition to being an engineer, Woke is an environmental protection specialist and politician.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering and worked in the Environmental, Safety and Operations departments of the then Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The new head of NOSDRA was the chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of ​​Rivers State.

On the other hand, Dr. Ashiru holds a PhD in Engineering from Common Wealth University in the UK and has led a consortium of major companies and has also won many awards in his professional career.
