Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt welcomes Western New York Energy to the New York State Capitol

Albany, New York – Today, Senator Rob Ortt welcomed Medina-based small company Western New York Energy to the New York State Capitol. CEO Tim Winters unveiled his new 2023 Ford Escape flex-fuel hybrid plug-fuel vehicle and educated members of the state legislature on technology aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation by using higher blends of low-emission, renewable bioethanol (such as E85 ).

“Finding cost-effective, sustainable solutions that help the environment and consumers is a key priority of the Senate Republican Conference. I was proud to welcome Tim Winters and Western New York Energy, a small Medina-based company, to Albany to show how they are finding innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. Western New York Energy is a great example of how the private sector is working to provide affordable pathways to a cleaner environment.” said Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt.

“Western New York Energy has been reducing harmful tailpipe emissions for almost 17 years. We work with local New York farmers to produce clean, renewable bioethanol that currently reduces greenhouse gas emissions from gasoline alone by nearly 50%. We support the goals of the CLCPA, but all of the above approaches are necessary to achieve New York’s lofty climate goals. While other costly technologies take time to mature, today we need a technology-agnostic approach to reduce emissions. We believe New York lawmakers and regulators must focus on reliable, affordable and achievable solutions to climate change, not on picking technology winners and losers. A prime example is cost-effective low-carbon regulations, similar to those implemented in California, Oregon and Washington, which have proven effective in lowering emissions while maintaining financial responsibility. Western New York Energy led the E85 PHEV project to prove that there are options today that can demonstrate achievable emissions reductions for New York and ensure a brighter future for our children.” said Timothy Winters, president and CEO of Western New York Energy.

Western New York Energy, LLC is a local company founded in 2004 to realize the full potential of renewable energy sources in Western New York. Production at their facility began immediately after construction was completed in November 2007. WNYE was the first biofuel plant in the northeastern United States and currently the only large-scale facility in New York City, producing over 63 million gallons of ethanol annually.
