RNC headquarters closed due to suspicious package containing 2 vials of blood

WASHINGTONThe Republican National Committee headquarters in downtown Washington was placed on lockdown early Wednesday morning after the discovery of a suspicious package containing two vials of blood.

U.S. Capitol Police said they called the 300 block of First Street around 7:45 a.m. for a report of a suspicious package.

Authorities said the package contained two vials of blood. The source of the package and its contents will be further investigated. Authorities believe ice leaked from the package

The incident attracted the Hazardous Incident Response Unit and caused traffic disruptions in the area.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the case has been forwarded to the agency’s Washington field office, which will lead the investigation.

No injuries were reported.
