VF (VFC) reports a loss for the fourth quarter, ignores revenue estimates

VF (VFC) came out with quarterly loss of $0.32 per share versus the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.01. For comparison, a year earlier earnings per share were $0.17. These numbers have been adjusted for one-off items.

This quarterly report presented an earnings surprise of -3,300%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this maker of brands including Vans, North Face, and Timberland would post earnings of $0.79 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.57, delivering a surprise of -27.85% .

The company has failed to beat consensus EPS estimates over the last four quarters.

VF, which belongs to the Zacks Textile – Apparel industry, posted revenues of $2.37 billion for the quarter ended March 2024, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.26%. For comparison, year-ago revenues were $2.74 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates twice over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the immediate share price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will largely depend on management’s commentary on the earnings call.

VF Shares have lost about 33.7% since the beginning of the year compared to the S&P 500’s gain of 11.6%.

The consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised upwards by 3% over the last 30 days to the current level.

Oxford Industries’ revenue is expected to be $408.4 million, down 2.8% from the same quarter last year.
