First impressions of the Infinix GT book: Good first try

Infinix has made laptops before, but this is their first attempt at making a gaming laptop. The Infinix GT Book was launched in India alongside the Infinix GT 20 gaming phone. It is equipped with up to 13th generation Intel processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. The laptop has a unique design that will surely attract the attention of some people and is also competitively priced. I have had the Infinix GT Book for a few days now and although I haven’t had time to get to know it thoroughly, here are my first impressions.

First, let me tell you about the project. The Infinix GT Book looks great thanks to the Cyber Mecha design that you will also find on some of the brand’s latest smartphones. The top and bottom covers are made of metal and have a matte finish that prevents fingerprints and smudges. There is also a Mecha Loop emblem on the lid. Overall, the GT Book feels well built and yes, the lid can be opened with one hand. Infinix claims that it is the lightest gaming laptop with a 16-inch display and weighs 1.99 kg.

The Mecha Strip is a customizable RGB strip

It also has RGB lighting in the form of a thin strip on the back called Mecha Bar. There are also ventilation holes at the back. The bottom panel has an intake fan shroud with orange accents and sturdy rubber feet to keep the laptop in place. All of the laptop’s RGB can be adjusted via the GT Control Center, but I’ll talk more about that experience in my full review.

After opening the cover, we reveal a full-size keyboard with 4-zone RGB lighting and a fairly small touchpad. Then there’s a 16-inch anti-glare display with narrow bezels on the sides and slightly thicker bezels at the top and bottom. The display offers a 16:10 aspect ratio, Full HD resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and brightness up to 300 nits. At first glance, it seems like a good display for gaming. The top bezel houses a 1080p webcam and two microphones.

Before I talk about the internals, let’s take a look at the laptop ports. You get two USB Type-A 3.2 ports, an SD card slot, HDMI 2.0, and a USB Type-C DP port. In terms of connectivity, the Infinix GT Book offers up to dual-band Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The company provides a 210W power supply in the set, which can certainly be used as a weapon. I think Infinix did a good job in choosing the port.

Alright, moving on to the internals, the Infinix GT Book comes with a 70Wh battery, dual fans for cooling, up to 32GB of non-expandable LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 1TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. The laptop can be configured with a 13th generation Intel Core i9 13900H processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM. Our review unit came with a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 12450H processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 with 6GB of video RAM, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 512GB of PCIe 4.0 storage. There is also a variant with a 13th generation Intel Core i5 chipset and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card.

The laptop has orange accents on the vents and speaker grills

The basic variant that I will be testing is priced at Rs 1,000. 59,990. It has a Total Graphics Power (TGP) of 80W while the other two variants offer a slightly higher TGP of 90W. I will be testing the laptop thoroughly to see how it performs in gaming.

For a first attempt, I think Infinix has done a good job with the GT Book gaming laptop. The prices are good and as part of the limited-time launch offer, users will also get freebies when they purchase the laptop. The freebies include an RGB gaming mouse, RGB gaming headphones and an RGB gaming mouse pad. While the internals are older than the latest gaming laptops, they should be good enough for gaming, video editing, and the like. Stay tuned to our full review to find out if the Infinix GT Book is a good gaming laptop worth buying.
