Will a lack of AI skills keep you from getting hired?

How important is it to learn artificial intelligence (AI) skills? A new report suggests that employers perceive this skill set as increasingly important, even though they have no idea about it artificial intelligence it can hurt your chances of landing your next gig.

According to LinkedIn and Microsoft Work Trends Index 2024 Annual Report, about 66 percent of leaders “say they wouldn’t hire someone without AI skills.” Even more (71%) said they would hire a less experienced candidate who knows how to use AI tools rather than a more experienced candidate with no knowledge of AI.

“Younger candidates may have a new advantage: 77 percent of leaders say AI will give early-career talent greater responsibilities,” the report says.

Bottom line: staying competitive in the labor market will require mastering at least some skills related to artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, those who master AI can find themselves in an ideal position for promotions, salary increases and other benefits. At the very least, these tools can help busy professionals manage tasks and focus on more creative work.

These are, of course, only selected tools of generative artificial intelligence, and more will appear over time (last week’s version Google I/Ofor example, he revealed how the search engine giant is trying to apply artificial intelligence across its technology and product stack).
