Change the way you work and create

What is Copilot+ and how can it help you? Check out our detailed Copilot+ review below. The technology is designed to streamline the way you work, create and connect across devices.

Microsoft’s use of artificial intelligence in Copilot+ promises to change the way you work, create and use devices. As other tech giants look to catch up by investing in AI-powered computers, now is the perfect time to explore the capabilities of the fastest and smartest Windows computers. We’re happy to help with the Microsoft Copilot+ review below.

While AI-based computers seem simple in concept, they have engineering hurdles traditionally hampered by processing capabilities and battery limitations. Read on to discover the potential of Copilot+ as an artificial intelligence computer.

Basics of Copilot+ computers

Microsoft has partnered with leading OEMs such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung, as well as Surface, to launch Copilot+ on June 18. The new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop mark the debut of Surface’s Copilot+ computers.

Copilot+ computers are a new type of personal computer running Windows 11 and equipped with a supercharged neural processing unit (NPU). This special chip handles AI-intensive tasks such as real-time translation and image creation, and can perform more than 40 trillion operations per second.

To be a Copilot+ computer, the device must have:

  • 16 GB RAM
  • 256 GB memory
  • 40 Tera operations per second (TOPS) of the NPU

Unfortunately, if you have a laptop with Intel Meteor Lake or AMD Ryzen 7000 processors, it will not cope well with future Windows updates. The first Copilot+ computers will use only Qualcomm Snapdragon X series processors.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X-series processors

At the launch of Copilot+, Microsoft announced that Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus are the only processors that are currently capable of providing Copilot+ features.

Qualcomm Technologies boosts Windows PC performance with a leading NPU powered by Snapdragon X Elite. He offers best NPU performance per watt for laptopsup to 2.6 times better than M3 and up to 5.4 times better than Core Ultra 71.

Integrated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU architecture delivers up to 24 trillion operations per second per watt. It is perfect for tasks such as super resolution. Powered by the leading Qualcomm Oryon processor, Snapdragon X Elite matches the peak performance of competitor desktop processors while consuming 60% less power.

In the past, using a Snapdragon-based PC was often associated with compatibility issues due to Windows on Arm. But now Windows on Arm updates support Copilot+ computers. This includes native Microsoft and third-party apps for Arm, as well as the new Prism emulator for solid compatibility with x86 apps.

More Arm64 apps are available, including Microsoft 365 apps. Other apps like Chrome, Spotify, Zoom, WhatsApp, Photoshop, and more now run smoothly on Arm. Slack and others will soon join them. 87% of apps now have native ARM versions. Additionally, Adobe is bringing Creative Suite to Windows on Arm.

Did you know that the Snapdragon X Series processor is equipped with an NPU capable of handling as much as 45 trillion TOPS for AI tasks? This means that it is designed to significantly increase your productivity and creativity.

Artificial intelligence capabilities and functions

Moving on to Copilot+ computers, Microsoft says they are AI-centric thanks to the NPU. Older AI computers had NPUs but didn’t use them very often.

Now the powerful 40 TOPS NPU of Copilot+ computers constantly runs in the background. It’s great for tasks that are best done on the computer itself.

The The most important new feature is Recall. Microsoft says it’s like having a superpower that gives you “photographic memory.” Search all activities on your computer using natural language. Find everything you’re looking for quickly and intuitively using saved directions.

Additionally, the memory size of your Copilot+ computer affects the number of snapshots Recall can save. To use Recall, your computer needs at least 256 GB of memory, of which 50 GB is free.

Please note that Copilot+ tracks user activity in detail, so you may have some privacy concerns due to Microsoft’s past practices.

However, you can specify which apps or websites to filter from snapshots. You can also pause snapshots on demand using the Recall icon in the taskbar. You can also manage your stored snapshots by deleting selected ones or completely deleting all snapshots from your device.

Finally, snapshots from Recall are stored on Copilot+ computers directly on the computer’s hard drive. Data encryption on the device ensures its security. If you have Windows 11 Pro or the business edition of Windows 11, BitLocker also protects them.

Other AI features available only on Copilot+ computers include:

  • Contributor to incremental image generation
  • Windows Studio Effects for new creative filters and portrait light
  • Super resolution to automatically enhance existing games
  • Live subtitles to translate audio from over 40 languages into English

Additionally, Microsoft executives recently mentioned that GPT-4o, the latest technology from OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT, will be available in Copilot soon.

Performance and battery life

Surface Laptop delivers lightning-fast speeds and seamless multitasking. Here’s a snapshot of what Surface Laptop offers:

  • 86% faster than Laptop 5
  • Powers up to 3 external 4K monitors
  • 45 TOPS NPU ensures smooth productivity
  • Longest battery life on any surface: up to 22 hours (15″ model) and up to 20 hours (13.8″ model)
  • A variety of ports for connectivity
  • Lightning-fast Wi-Fi 7

Copilot+ is up to 20 times more powerful and up to 100 times more efficient at performing AI tasks than traditional PCs.

Compared to the MacBook Air M3, these new laptops offer approximately 16% more multi-threaded performance and a 46% advantage in sustained performance.

Additionally, 22 hours of local video playback is impressive and represents a significant leap forward in Windows laptop technology. However, battery life can vary significantly depending on your device’s configuration, how you use it, and other factors.

Surface Pro is now 90% faster than Surface Pro 9 and can support 3 4K monitors with Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G connectivity.

The highlight is the stunning new OLED display with HDR, offering high-quality images. It has an ultra-wide-angle front camera and a rear camera that supports recording in up to 4K resolution.

The Flex Keyboard ensures stability whether connected or disconnected, and now has a larger touchpad.

Conclusion

Equipped with the world’s most powerful PC NPUs, Copilot+ is up to 100 times more efficient at running AI workloads than traditional PCs.

That’s why Microsoft predicts that 50 million computers equipped with artificial intelligence will be purchased next year. This shows that faster AI assistants right on your computer make the upgrade worthwhile.
