The UK energy sector unites behind the Energy Skills Passport

A joint effort by the energy industry is working on a new system that will make it easier for workers to move between different sectors.

The aim of this ‘Energy Skills Passport’ is to recognize expertise and qualifications in various energy fields.

The aim is to ensure a smoother transition to cleaner energy sources while protecting jobs and expertise.

It is supported by Scottish Government funding and industry bodies including RenewableUK and Offshore Energies UK.

Executive director of Offshore Wind at RenewableUK, Jane Cooper, said: “Offshore wind companies need to attract oil and gas workers to our sector with valuable experience and skills that can be transferred to another sector.

“We will continue to work with a wide range of partners and colleagues from other organizations to achieve this, enabling highly skilled workers to find new career opportunities in the clean energy transition.”

OEUK supply chain and people director Katy Heidenreich said: “Creating a skills passport will help make the most of workers’ experience and capabilities, while ensuring that jobs and communities across the country are protected.

“A skilled future, secure energy and a sustainable journey to net zero – this is what our people represent. This is what our people can deliver with the right support and cross-sector mobility.”
