Indiana County students tour a renewable energy project site

INDIANA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Sunny Fields renewable energy team led a group of Indiana Area School seniors on a tour of the Gaucho Solar project site in May.

The solar project tour “excited” students as they saw the innovations and benefits of solar energy projects in their community.

During the trip, students learned about solar energy and its potential to impact their community. The Gaucho Solar project began commercial operations in June last year. It will annually generate 18% of the energy used by the University of Pittsburgh.

“As students toured the Gaucho Solar project, they were immersed in a transformative experience of the power and innovation of solar energy… it was truly inspiring and exciting,” said EJay Fyke, community manager for the Sunny Fields project. School officials said students left the trip with a deeper understanding of the scale and efficiency of solar projects.
