Scott will veto the renewable energy bill

JERICHO, Vt. (WCAX) – The D3 NCAA Track and Field Championships begin Thursday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Middlebury has several representatives, but one Vermont native will become the first Castleton Spartan to ever compete at nationals. Underhill native and MMU graduate Harrison Leombruno-Nicholson is headed to the big stage to compete in the javelin. He won the Little East title last month and set a new program record with a throw of 60.45 meters. Leombruno-Nicholson is one of 22 athletes from across the country seeking to win the national title, and the Spartan senior is ranked 14th on the national team. This is his second time earning an NCAA qualifying grade, but he had to withdraw last year due to injury. Leombruno-nicholson credits his experience as a multi-sport athlete at Mt Mansfield with helping him pave the way to success at Castleton. “Shout out to my boy Bill Eschholz, actually the track coach here at Mt Mansfield,” Leombruno-Nicholson said. “He and Edward Kusiak. He was my teacher, and I thought, “I want to play super frisbee.” And he said, “You’re not going to play Super Frisbee, man.” You’re coming to practice athletics. And I said, “Okay, I don’t want to run away.” I don’t want to do anything. I played baseball, so what can I do? He said, “Try throwing a javelin.” I picked it up, threw it the first time and fell in love with it, man. It was quite funny.” Like many of us, Harrison found himself at a crossroads at some point in 2020 when his original freshman track and field season was cut short due to Covid-19. But he took some time off and came back with a renewed focus on Java, which helped him get to where he is today. “The first year I came back from track and field, my senior year at MMU and then I played football at Castleton,” he said. “I was kind of playing two sports at once. Honestly, I was in the best shape of my life. And then the year of the pandemic hit and I didn’t know if I was going to go back to school or what. I came back, decided to give it a try, eventually quit football and just put all my eggs in one basket with javelin. And it really just took off and I couldn’t be more grateful. ” Leombruno-Nicholson will start on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m
