Launch of MadiSUN photovoltaic programs for 2024 | News

Going solar can be an attractive option for nonprofits.

MADISON (WKOW) – City of Madison and RENEW Wisconsin leaders on Thursday launched MadiSUN solar programs for 2024. MadiSUN is Madison’s initiative to increase solar energy in homes, businesses and organizations.

There are three main programs: group purchase of photovoltaics for homes, photovoltaics for companies and the home photovoltaics program. Thursday’s premiere took place at Centro Hispano, one of the beneficiaries of the 2023 home solar energy subsidy.

Since the initiative’s launch, nearly five megawatts of solar power have been added, with a total investment of more than $8 million.

There are many incentives available today for individuals and organizations that choose solar energy.

For the first time, nonprofits can use the optional pay provision of the Inflation Reduction Act to access the solar investment tax credit. Thanks to this, groups can directly cover 30% of the cost of a photovoltaic installation.

Wisconsin also receives a $62.4 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Solar For All program. This financing will help increase the availability of solar energy for low- and moderate-income households.

“MadiSUN provides invaluable assistance to residents, businesses and nonprofit organizations throughout Madison,” said Lauren Cohen, RENEW Wisconsin program manager. “By lowering upfront costs and simplifying the process of going solar, we help our community members save on their energy bills, reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. The success of the program is a testament to the power of local action supported by strong federal incentives.”
