The Knicks front office “promised” James Dolan to acquire the star

If there’s one thing that big-market teams will always try to acquire after a collapse in the NBA playoffs, it’s more star talent. That’s why many New York Knicks fans aren’t really shocked by the jersey-swapping graphic. Whether it’s LeBron James, Kevin Durant, or any other big name in free agency, James Dolan’s organization will be associated with them in one way or another. After a successful season under Jalen Brunson and Tom Thibodeau on fire, will a new Big Apple star emerge in the fall?

A big promise to James Dolan

Short answer? Yes. There will always be flexibility when it comes to moving parts and allowing big-market teams like the Knicks to attract big names. They were once linked to Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell before the two decided to go different paths. Why is the front office team so eager to acquire great talent? They are already working under the supervision of Tom Thibodeau. Moreover, Jalen Brunson already looks good on a healthy team. This may sound like they’re trying to fulfill a promise they made to James Dolan via The Ringer’s Howard Beck.

“But one thing hasn’t changed. Currently, the Knicks, as always, are constantly in the hunt for the next dazzling star. Dolan, as always, expects one thing. “It’s factual,” said a source close to the Garden. The source said the Rose-Wesley team “promised him stars.” “He didn’t hire them because of their experience managing a basketball team.” If the Knicks had failed on the court for the last two years, you’d be seeing the old Knicks you’ve seen for the last 24 years. Heads would roll,” the informant wrote.

There are a lot of possibilities for this lineup. Especially after the potential NBA Playoffs ran all the way to the Larry O’Brien Trophy only to crash and burn with injuries. Another star in the Knicks system could add help with Jalen Brunson. But do they risk sacrificing depth of talent?

Knicks situation

That’s great, and they have assets to trade that will help them make the NBA playoffs again. The Knicks’ seven unprotected first-round picks, eight future second-round picks, and four protected first-round picks alone give them tremendous upside to move around. If they are willing to move the Knicks with expiring contracts, like Bojan Bogdanovic, that flexibility will likely increase as well.

Some analysts are already guessing that they could try to sign Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell or Mikal Bridges. All of this would be possible if the Knicks also got rid of someone with star-caliber talent. So if they really want to make a difference, management could simply sell Julius Randle as well.

The Knicks found their core thanks to the Villanova guys led by Jalen Brunson. It’s not like they’re separating them, considering how much chemistry they’ve developed in Tom Thibodeau’s system. Someone who complements their style of play while also being big enough for James Dolan might just get the job done.
