Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves has tested positive for Covid

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that she had tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday morning.

Ms Reeves, Labor MP for Leeds West, is self-isolating while awaiting the results of a PCR test.

She wrote on Twitter: “I tested positive for Covid this morning.

“I have had a PCR test and am in self-isolation waiting for the result, which means unfortunately I will not be able to vote on the legislation today.

“If I could, I would vote in the best interest of our country – for new regulations.”

She said she was “grateful” to have received the booster shot three days ago and urged people to get their third jab as soon as possible.

The 42-year-old added: “I’m so grateful to have had my booster just three days ago. But this shows how much of a race against time it is to beat Omicron. Vaccines are our best weapon against Covid.

“Please increase your dose as soon as possible to protect your friends, family and our NHS.”

Ms Reeves has declared her support for the principles of Plan B as the Prime Minister faces the biggest rebellion of his term as the proposals are voted on in the House of Commons.

More than 70 Tory backbenchers are threatening to defy the whips and oppose the Government’s Plan B for England, which sees the return of home working, mandatory face mask rules, Covid passports and self-isolation rules.
