Sungrow publishes its 2023 sustainability report, highlighting its commitment to a greener future

Sungrow, the world’s leading supplier of solar inverters and energy storage systems, recently published its 2023 Sustainability Report. This is the ninth consecutive year that the company has publicly communicated its commitment to sustainability.

Against the backdrop of a global consensus on the demand for renewable energy, Sungrow has redoubled its commitment to promoting green energy solutions. The report highlights that the company is focused on solar, wind, storage, hydrogen and electric vehicle technologies, offering a range of power equipment solutions.

Excellent management

  • Sungrow expanded the Strategy Committee to the Strategy and Sustainability Committee and established a three-tier sustainability governance structure.
  • Sungrow topped the rankings for global solar inverter shipments for three years in a row and was ranked No. 1 among Chinese companies in global energy storage system shipments for eight years in a row.
  • Guided by the principle of innovation-led growth, we have invested $347 million in research and development and delivered the world’s first 2000V inverter for grid-connected power generation, the world’s first fully liquid-cooled 10 MWh energy storage system and the industry’s first grid stem cells Technical White Paper.
  • By the end of 2023, the total installed capacity of Sungrow inverters and converters worldwide exceeded 515 GW, equivalent to emissions of over 300 million tons of CO2 Together with our customers, we can avoid emissions every year.

Towards net zero

  • Sungrow is committed to achieving carbon neutrality at the operational level by 2028, carbon neutrality across the supply chain by 2038 and net zero emissions across the supply chain by 2048.
  • Sungrow is actively developing a greenhouse gas inventory, and Scope 1 includes 3,594 tons of CO2 equivalent, range 2 for 38,161 tons of CO2 equivalent and scope 3 of 8953862 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
  • Sungrow built rooftop photovoltaic power plants in its power plants with a total capacity of almost 13 MW and saved over 1,300 MWh of electricity per year and increased the share of green electricity consumption to 55%. Energy consumption per product unit decreased by 6.8% compared to 2020.

Environmentally friendly development

  • SG320HX series products have achieved the world’s first eco-product declaration EPD for inverters in Italy.
  • Sungrow has invested $1.1 million in environmental efforts to continually optimize its pollution and waste management system.
  • Compared to 2020, VOC and particulate matter emissions per unit of production capacity decreased by 46.4% and 87.1%, respectively, compared to 2020.
  • The overall utilization rate of industrial solid waste was 60.1%, up 7% year-on-year.
  • Water consumption intensity per unit of product decreased by 37.3% compared to 2020.

Mutually beneficial cooperation

  • Sungrow’s customer satisfaction rate is a commendable 93.9%.
  • Sungrow continues to focus on compliance and sustainability in its supply chain management, with a 96.8% Supplier Code of Conduct sign-up rate.
  • Sungrow has successfully completed ESG audits for 33 suppliers.
  • Sungrow has completed the collection of carbon inventory and product carbon footprint data for 34 suppliers.

Diversity and inclusion

  • Sungrow’s organizational health is 86.8%, and employee engagement is rated at 4.3 points (full score: 5 points).
  • Sungrow boasts 1,287 foreign employees, an increase of 43% year-on-year. Women in management positions make up 15.7% of the workforce and the local employment rate is an impressive 98.8%.
  • Sun Forest successfully planted a total of 200 acres and oversaw the construction of 10 wildlife nesting dens.
  • A total of 1,352 volunteer employees are registered and have worked 3,442 hours.
