Wuthering Waves players are testing an unreleased character by changing the date on their devices

Wuthering Waves is now available, and plenty of players are diving in and enjoying the open-world action gacha. However, while many of them work to elevate their relationship or hunt for echoes, others push the boundaries of the game to see if they can break anything. It turns out they can. By adjusting your device’s clock, you can access a 5-star character trail ahead of its intended release.

The character in question in Wuthering Waves is Yinlin, a five-star character who is currently not available in the game normally. By changing the device date to a point in the future when Yinlin’s character trail will be active and playable, cheeky gamers will be able to jump in and check her out sooner, as shown in this bilibili video.

Fortunately, it doesn’t look like this technique can be used to access other content, such as restricted events or future logs, but this sort of thing that appears to work on the client side has many curious about what further exploits are possible. For those who don’t know, the client side refers to the things that the game determines on the player side, while the server side refers to the parts of the game that developers deal with on their servers and the like. This is a very simplified explanation, but for the purposes of this story it will do!

Now, the Kuro Games team has already committed to fixing various bugs and technical issues in the game since its rocky launch, so you have to imagine this is relatively high on the list of things to fix. if you are afraid of getting banned, I personally wouldn’t try it myself. It would be relatively easy to determine who tested it based on Yinlin’s character path completion stats. Best watched and laughed from afar.

Time will tell whether this is the canary in the coal mine for future exploits and mischief. For now, we can enjoy early gameplay of the upcoming 5-star character and hope that people don’t start ruining the game’s economy or anything like that. Or maybe you would like that – take down the establishment etc. To each their own.
