Urbx introduces a robotic retail order fulfillment system to the market

Urbx (urbx.com) brings to market a robotic inventory storage and retrieval system capable of fulfilling complex, multi-SKU orders at unprecedented speeds. The system uses a fleet of proprietary Urbx TowerBot AI-powered robots to find the shortest 3D path through a dense warehouse grid to retrieve cases and deliver them to picking stations. TowerBots move across the top of racks and drop through strategically placed columns to access inventory. This storage grid design requires no aisle navigation or digging to access cases beneath the topmost storage layers, allowing inventory on all levels – stacked up to 75 cases high – to be accessed in seconds. The TowerBots then move the cases down through the same columns to built-in conveyor plates for transport for order fulfillment and consolidation. In practice, the Urbx system enables exceptional speed of order fulfillment, enabling an order consisting of 50 lines to be completed in less than 2.5 minutes.
