Knight named executive director of the George and Carol Bauer Leadership Academy – The Source

Andrew Knight, associate dean for education and globalization and professor of organizational behavior at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named executive director of the George and Carol Bauer Leadership Academy at WashU and senior advisor to the chancellor for leadership, effective July 1, Chancellor Andrew D. Martin announced.

Knight is an expert in organizational behavior, leadership and teamwork.

Knight will replace Kurt Dirks, who has accepted an appointment as dean of the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

The new Bauer Leadership Academy, funded by a $20 million gift from George and Carol Bauer, puts values-based leadership development at the center of the WashU experience for all students. In collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of the Provost, Knight will create effective co-curricular programs, support leadership research, and develop new courses and academic content. The initiative is part of the university’s 10-year strategic plan “Here and Beyond”.

“Andrew himself is a model of character-based leadership,” Martin said. “In his work as an educator, innovator and researcher, Andrew has demonstrated his passion for developing students as leaders of purpose and character. I am confident that under his leadership, the George and Carol Bauer Leadership Academy will become a pioneer in the emerging field of leadership education.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to play a role in distinguishing WashU as a place that develops leaders of character and ability,” Knight said. “Through this work, WashU will equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to create positive change in their fields, communities and society.”

Knight joined Olin Business School in 2010. During his tenure, he served as associate dean of WashU at Brookings and co-directed the Olin Office of Graduate Programs. In his role as Olin associate dean for education and globalization, Knight oversees the undergraduate and graduate programs, global programs, the Center for Digital Education, and academic affairs and the office of the registrar. Knight also taught courses on teamwork, leadership, people metrics and organizational behavior.

Additionally, Knight serves on several university committees, including the School of Public Health’s Internal Advisory Committee, the Undergraduate Academic Advisory Board, the Arts and Science Literacy Advisory Committee for Life and Careers, and the Learning Center Faculty Advisory Board and Learning.
