Piccowaxen student found with vaping devices and marijuana

School authorities reported that on May 22, a student of Piccowaxen Junior High School was found in possession of vaporization devices and marijuana. A school administrator reported the incident to the school resource officer (SRO) after discovering three vaping devices and a bag of marijuana in the student’s possession.

The SRO immediately recovered the items from the student after receiving the report. The student was then charged with possession of cannabis, receiving a civil lawsuit. This legal action highlights growing concerns about substance use among minors.

In addition to legal consequences, the student may also face disciplinary measures from the school. These remedies, although unspecified, typically include suspension or other educational penalties intended to address such violations and prevent such events from occurring in the future.

Cpl. Caballero is investigating the incident. The role of school resource officers in these situations is crucial because they help maintain a safe environment in educational settings. Their presence and actions play a key role in dealing with violations of school rules and laws.

The discovery of vaping and cannabis devices in the possession of a middle school student raises serious concerns about the availability of these substances to minors. Vaping, often seen as a safer alternative to smoking, continues to pose health risks, especially to young people. The presence of cannabis, despite its legalization in various jurisdictions, remains illegal for minors and can lead to various health and developmental problems.

This incident highlights the need for ongoing education and preventive measures in schools to address substance use among students. Parents, educators and law enforcement must work together to increase awareness of the dangers of vaping and cannabis use. Effective communication and prevention programs are essential to reduce the spread of these substances among young people.
