Google’s redesigned Pixel Weather app is now available on many other Android devices

The renewed Google Weather application reaches a wider audience. Originally only available for a handful of Pixel devices, the new design has been spotted on several Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, OnePlus Open, and Honor Magic 6 RSR. The redesigned app, which acts as a shortcut to Google’s comprehensive Weather platform, offers a Material You aesthetic with a vibrant look and enhanced data. One of the most exciting additions is NowCast, a feature that provides hyperlocal and real-time rainfall forecasts. The technology is reminiscent of Dark Sky, the popular weather platform acquired by Apple that left Android users longing for a similar experience. Now, thanks to Google NowCast, Android users can enjoy detailed, up-to-date weather forecasts.

The scope of the rollout remains unclear, but interestingly, the updated app does not require the latest version of Android. According to 9to5Google, the redesigned Weather app first appeared in mid-2023, exclusively on the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. Google gradually expanded it to older Pixel models in October 2023 and a select group of Samsung phones in December 2023.

Google initially reserved certain Android features for Pixel devices, such as call screening and Magic Eraser. However, some of these features eventually make their way to other Android devices, perhaps to strengthen the overall Android platform and address the concerns of Google partners.

Currently, it has been reported that the updated weather app has been detected on multiple devices. Examples are Galaxy Z Fold 4, OnePlus openHonor Magic 6 RSR and surprisingly, one user even reported seeing it on his Nokia 4.2, a device that is still running a very old version of Android.

This broader release of the redesigned Weather app suggests that Google may be gradually making its features more available across the Android ecosystem. Time will tell whether this trend will continue with Google’s AI-powered improvements, but for now, Android users can enjoy the fresh look and improved functionality of the new Weather app.
