The new photovoltaic farm in Los Lunas is already completed

LOS LUNAS, New Mexico — Rows of solar panels now cover more than a thousand acres in Los Lunas. The 190 MW solar farm is part of a partnership between PNM, Meta and NextEra Energy.

“Together with PNM and Meta, we are excited to celebrate the completion of New Mexico’s newest operational solar energy center,” said J.D. Rulien of NextEra Energy Resources. “I think you see what’s happening across the country and here in New Mexico, just the need for renewable energy.”

The Sky Ranch Solar Energy Center is one of three major solar projects in New Mexico that will help PNM become completely carbon-free.

“At PNM, we have a goal to produce 100% clean energy by 2040. We are on the right track and this is part of the process,” said Laura Sanchez, executive director of government and public affairs at PNM.

PNM says the solar farm will also bring major economic development, especially with partnerships like Meta.

“To achieve these sustainability goals, they are looking to states like New Mexico that are committed to clean energy,” Sanchez said. “So the fact that we were able to build this particular installation and others that we have planned for the future means that coming to New Mexico will be attractive and will bring with it a good-paying job.”
