President Ruto gives CDF Charles Kahariri more roles in recent appointments

President William Ruto has appointed General Charles Muriu Kahariri, Chief of the Armed Forces, as Chairman of the Presidential Task Force for the Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in the Lake Turkana Basin.

The announcement was made in a Gazette notice which also revealed the inclusion of Mary Gikungu, Director General of the National Museums of Kenya, as a member of the task force.

He will work with principal secretaries from various departments including Treasury, Defence, Wildlife, Tourism, Culture and Shipping and Maritime Affairs.

General Kahariri takes over the position previously held by the late Francis Ogolla, whose appointment was annulled. His nomination takes immediate effect.

“It has been brought to public notice that His Excellency the President has appointed General Charles Muriu Kahariri – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Museums of Kenya as a member of the Steering Committee of the Kenya Development Task Force. Museum of the Origins of Man and Science Park in the Lake Turkana Basin”, read the notice.

President Ruto also made four additional appointments to enhance service delivery under his administration.

Jackton Ojwang has been reappointed chairman of the board of directors of the Energy and Petroleum Authority (EPRA) for a four-year term.

Professor Mohamed Said became non-executive chairman of the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO for three years.

Former Nairobi Speaker Benson Mutura will serve as chairman of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA) Board for three years, while Dr Ningala Kalachu has been appointed as chairman of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate Board for three years.

General Kahariri’s new role is to lead his team in researching, designing and operationalizing the museum and science park project.

This includes identifying the necessary infrastructure to exploit the tourism potential of the Lake Turkana basin.

The task force aims to diversify Kenya’s tourism sector by promoting the region’s rich anthropological heritage, thereby attracting tourists interested in the origins of humanity.
