Technology companies Asus, Samsung, Sony Vivo, Xiaomi and others released smart TVs, computers, smartphones, smartwatches and other products this week (May 20-26, 2024).

DH’s Gadgets Weekly features a list of the latest personal technology products to keep you up to date with everything happening in consumer electronics.

The new Xiaomi Smart TV A series is equipped with Vivid Picture Engine technology, which provides multimedia content with vivid colors and crystal clear images in every frame.

It has a VPE algorithm and can dynamically select appropriate color, contrast, brightness and transparency parameters to provide realistic visual effects.

Features a 20W speaker tuned for Dolby Audio to deliver an immersive audio experience. It also supports DTS Virtual X.

It has Chromecast built-in, Xiaomi TV+ and supports all popular OTT apps including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLiv, Zee5, JioCinema and more.

It includes 8GB of memory, 1.5GB RAM and a quad-core A35 processor. The device also supports low latency mode, Xiaomi Remote and multiple connectivity ports including two HDMI ports, two USB ports, one AV port, Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi and Miracast.

It also has a 4-star BEE rating and is 24 percent more energy efficient than the previous version. It costs Rs 12,499.

The new Vivo phone features a 6.78-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080p) curved AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for peak brightness up to 1,300 nits.

It is also equipped with dual-SIM slots (type: nano), an in-display fingerprint reader and a Type-C port.

Inside, there’s a 6nm-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 octa-core processor, Adreno 619 GPU, Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14, 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM, 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage (expandable up to 1TB), and a 5000 battery mAh with 44 W charger.

It also has a dual camera module – a 64 MP main camera (f/1.79 aperture) and a 2 MP portrait camera (f/2.4) with Aura LED flash. There is a 16 MP camera (F/2.45) on the front.

It is available in two colors – Silk Black and Silk Green – and is priced at Rs 24,999.

Samsung announces “Solve for Tomorrow” competition for students

For several years, Samsung has been organizing the “Solve for Tomorrow” program for students. Now it has extended to school students for the first time.

Interested students will be provided with a platform to showcase their concept product. It should have practical applications and solve real problems. The 10 teams that qualify for the semi-finals will receive Rs 20,000 to develop the prototype and the Galaxy Tab.

The five finalists will receive a grant of Rs 1 lakh for prototype improvements and Galaxy Watches. The final winning team will receive a seed subsidy of Rs 25 lakh. The school to which the team belongs will also receive Samsung products to develop the skills of other students.

Recruitment for the “Solve for Tomorrow” program will end on May 31.

At the beginning of the week, Sony presented a new, high-end Smart TV Bravia 2. It is available in four screen sizes – 65 inches, 55 inches, 50 inches and 43 inches.

They are equipped with an X1 image processor. It works based on advanced algorithms that reduce noise and increase detail. The device also supports 4K X-Reality PRO technology, which allows you to upgrade video quality to 4K resolution and deliver natural, realistic colors thanks to Sony’s Live Color technology.

Thanks to Sony Motionflow X technology, your Sony TV can display smooth and sharp details even in fast-moving sports and action movie sequences.

It features open, downward-firing dual speakers that can deliver powerful 20W sound with Dolby audio.

Thanks to X-Protection PRO technology, the new BRAVIA 2 TVs are protected against dust and lightning surges in the home.

The box also includes a free remote control with six dedicated hotkeys (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+Hotstar, Sony LIV, YouTube movies and music).

Initially, the 65-inch (KD-65S25) and 55-inch (KD-55S25) models will be available at Rs 96,990 and Rs 74,990 respectively. 50- and 43-inch models will be released in the coming months.

It has a high-quality aluminum alloy housing and a 2.01-inch HD (240x240p) display with a brightness of 500 nits. It has an IP67 rating, which means it can survive a fall into water from a height of one meter (about three feet) for almost 30 minutes.

It includes DIY Watch Face Studio, which allows users to create personalized watch faces. It also includes MapMyIndia app for navigation.

It also supports heart rate measurement and can track SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation), sleep patterns and physical activity.

Once fully charged, the battery can operate for up to seven days. It is available in seven colors – Active Black, Metallic Black, Metallic Gray, Cool Gray, Cherry Blossom, Rustic Pink and Sapphire Breeze – at a price of Rs 1,199 on Flipkart, Myntra, Amazon and other retail platforms.

As promised, Nothing has rolled out a new software update with ChatGPT support for all its audio devices – bEar (1), Ear (stick), Ear (2), CMF Buds, CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Buds Pro via the Nothing X app.

The new Mini UPS Pro is equipped with a 2600 mAh EV class lithium-ion battery. It can provide up to eight hours of backup.

Earlier this week, Asus launched the new Vivobook S series in the Indian market. It is available in three sizes – Vivobook S 16 (16-inch 3.2K display, VESA HDR 600 True Black display), Vivobook S 15 (15.6-inch 3K display , VESA HDR 500 True Black display) and Vivobook S 14 (14-inch).

The new Vivobooks S 16 and S 15 are equipped with an OLED screen, 120 Hz refresh rate, support for the Intel Core Ultra 9 – 185H processor, 16 GB of LPDDRX RAM and storage capacity of up to 1 TB.

They support an ErgoSense keyboard with a dedicated Copilot key, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 ports, MicroSD card and USB-C Easy Charge, which allows for fast charging up to 60 percent in just 49 minutes.

On the other hand, the Vivobook S 14 comes with an Asus Lumina OLED screen and has a MIL-STD-810H military-grade chassis.

The company offers a device with an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS processor, up to 16 GB RAM and the Windows 11 operating system.

Prices for the new Vivobook S 14 start at Rs 89,900. Prices for the S 15 and S 16 start at Rs 96,990 and Rs 1,02,990 respectively.

New HP OmniBook and EliteBook computers

HP has launched new HP OmniBook X AI and HP EliteBook Ultra AI computers with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite processors.

The new neural processing unit in Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite processors can perform 45 trillion operations per second. Thanks to the new chipsets, the new computers will be able to operate on batteries for up to 26 hours.

The new OmniBook X AI PC and EliteBook Ultra AI PC will start at $1,199.99 and $1,699.99, respectively, and are expected to ship in select regions on June 18.

The ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 features a 14-inch WUXGA display and an ultra-slim design. It features Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite silicon and Adreno GPU. It also supports up to 64GB RAM, up to 1TB storage, a fingerprint reader on the power button, and a 58Wh battery.

The new Yoga Slim7X comes with a 14.5-inch PureSight OLED display and a peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits.

It also comes with an Adreno Snapdragon X Elite GPU and a Hexagon NPU. It supports up to 32 GB RAM, up to 1 TB storage and a 70 Wh battery.

Both new Lenovo laptops are called Copilot+ computers and are capable of handling the heaviest tasks and supporting generative artificial intelligence (AI gene) features such as real-time language translation, audio transcription, and even photo generation applications to create hyper-realistic images using only text suggestions.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x and ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 start at $1,199 and $1,699, respectively. They will hit stores on June 18.

It has a 1.91-inch display and is IP68 waterproof. It can survive underwater at a depth of up to 1.5 meters (about five feet) for almost 30 minutes.

It can track over 120 sports modes and monitor your health – 24-hour heart rate, SpO₂ (blood oxygen saturation), sleep rhythm and stress levels. After pairing with the phone, it also supports voice calls based on Bluetooth technology.

When fully charged, it can last for 12 days. It is available in three colors – gray, graphite and pink – at a price of Rs 6,999.

It features a 6.77-inch 1.5K (1264 x 2780p) LTPO AMOLED with a 120Hz display, offering 1,400 nits peak brightness and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It also has an IP54 dust and water resistance rating.

It comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor, an infrared module, a Type-C port, and dual-SIM card slots.

The new Camon 30 Premier is equipped with an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 3.1 GHz processor, Mali-G610 MC6 GPU, 12 GB RAM with 512 GB storage, Android 14-based HiOS 14 and a 5000 mAh battery with a 70 W charging rate .

It also has a triple camera module – 50 MP (with Sony IMX890 1/1.56-inch sensor, f/1.88 aperture OIS: optical image stabilization) with a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens (with 3x optical zoom, PolarAce Imaging System) with LED flash and the ability to record videos in 4K resolution.

On the front, there is a 50MP front camera with autofocus and a 100ms focus speed. It is available in two colors – Icelandic Basalt Dark and Uyuni Salt White – and is priced at Rs 39,999.
