Gas sector benefits from removal of fuel subsidies – Ekpo

The Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his courage and vision in ending fuel subsidies, stating that the decision has led to increased investment in unlocking the country’s vast gas potential for the benefit of citizens, the economy and the environment.

The minister stated this in a speech delivered on Wednesday in Delta State during the presidential handover of key gas infrastructure projects under the slogan “From Gas to Prosperity, Renewed Hope”.

He said, “Mr. Mr. President, the decision to eliminate fuel subsidies at the beginning of your administration forced increased spending on upstream and midstream gas development and the use of gas as a suitable, more cost-effective and cleaner alternative to diesel and gasoline. Moreover, in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change, this measure strengthens the use of gas as a transition fuel as we move the nation closer to achieving green energy sufficiency by 2060.”

The Minister appreciated President Tinubu, saying his “inspiring leadership is the driving force behind our progress towards a future of opportunity and promise.”

He described the AHL Gas Processing Plant 2 (GPP – 2) and ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), which were commissioned, as important aspects of the Decade of Gas initiative and reflect the efforts of NNPC Ltd. and its Joint Venture partners.

The federal government’s intervention policy in the gas sector resulted in an increase in domestic production by 800 million scf/day.

Regarding the AHL 2 Gas Processing Plant (GPP – 2), the Minister stated that it is a joint venture (JV) between NNPC Limited and Sterling Exploration and Exploration Company Ltd. (SEEPCO) for the development of the AHL Gas Processing Plant which will process 200 million scf/d of natural gas.

“In addition to producing over 160,000 metric tons of propane and 100,000 metric tons of butane annually, this facility promotes rapid industrialization and reduces dependence on LPG imports,” ssid added.

Ekpo also said this about the ANOH Gas Processing Plant (AGPC):

“With a capacity of 600 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), the ANOH gas processing plant is an excellent example of progress. Processing unrelated gas from the Assa North – Ohaji South field in Imo State, this integrated gas processing plant will produce LPG, condensate and dry gas. This facility, developed by ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), a joint venture between NNPC Limited and Seplat Energy Plc, will significantly increase the availability of domestic gas, which will boost energy production and accelerate industrialization.

The second project contracted is the 23.3 km x 36 in. ANOH-OB3 CTMS Gas Pipeline Project, which included the engineering, procurement and construction of the 36 in. x 23.3 km ANOH-OB3 Gas Pipeline Project (ANOH – OB3).”

According to him, this pipeline will supply dry gas from the Assa North-Ohaji South Primary Treatment Facility (PTF) to the OB3 pipeline system, which will provide the ability to evacuate and transfer the treated gas to both the AKK pipeline and the Western National Water Pipeline. Gas Market.
