There were no changes to the North Northants director position at the board’s fourth annual meeting

Leader of North Northamptonshire Council (NNC), Jason Smithers, has praised the council for coming together to create an “ambitious long-term vision” for the county at the authority’s fourth annual meeting.

The meeting, which is intended to determine new appointments to key positions, confirmed that there will be no changes to the nine members of the executive panel. The latest addition to the senior team was Councilor Gill Mercer, who took up the Adults, Health and Wellbeing portfolio in January, after Councilor Helen Harrison resigned from standing in the Wellingborough by-election.

Councilor Lora Lawman has also been named the new chair of the NNC, while councilor Jennie Bone has been elected vice-chair of the body for future meetings in 2024/25.

NNC leader Cllr Jason Smithers said: “I would like to congratulate you and your deputy leader on your election. We have a table here decorated with amazing, talented women, exemplifying the diversity that has become the norm here at North Northamptonshire Council.

“Over the last year the council has come together, regardless of political views, to work with our partners to create an ambitious long-term vision for North Northamptonshire.

“It is right that we recognize some of the recent achievements and share a strong sense of pride in our local area.”

However, Green Party leader Councilor Emily Fedorowycz asked how far the council had come in the three years since its founding.
