KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal met Sher Bahadur Deuba, president of the Nepali Congress (NC) and leader of the main opposition party, on Sunday morning.

The meeting took place before the scheduled session of parliament, during which the government’s policies and programs were adopted.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the aim of the meeting was to develop a political consensus between the ruling and opposition parties and to break the parliamentary deadlock.

Meanwhile, key NC leaders have been holding discussions at Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha since early Sunday morning.

Prime Minister Dahal also convened a meeting of key leaders of various parties.

For the past month, the Nepali Congress has been disrupting parliamentary sessions by demanding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee to probe Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in the cooperative fraud case.

Although the government and opposition parties agreed to establish a study commission, they did not reach an agreement on the terms of reference of the proposed panel.

At the same time, the Nepali Congress is organizing a street protest in the capital against the government and cooperative fraud.
