Your partner, family members, friends or colleagues can easily secretly access WhatsApp chats on their devices without your knowledge.

But how?

Well, the ‘connected devices’ feature in WhatsApp Meta allows you to send and receive messages on your desktop, laptop or iPad using the web app, but you can also connect to another phone as long as it isn’t already running the app, Forbes reported.

Anyone who has access to your unlocked phone or password can do it quickly and you’ll never know about it. However, it is very easy to detect and put an end to it.

First step

Open WhatsApp and go to “Settings”. Then click “Connected devices”

Step two

Once you open “Connected Devices”, make sure you recognize everything listed.

If you haven’t connected any of your devices and you see links there, or if there are links you don’t recognize, log out immediately.

This applies to most messengers that connect this way rather than through a trusted device architecture.

Other ways to protect your WhatsApp chats

Additionally, locked chats in your instant messaging app allow you to set a different password to protect your most sensitive messages in a separate folder.

WhatsApp also recommends “checking your connected devices regularly… checking all devices connected to your account.”

A connected device will be deleted if it doesn’t do anything on your account for about a month, but if you don’t keep an eye on it, reconnecting it will be easy.
