Policies and programs are aimed at realizing national aspirations: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the government’s policies and programs for the coming financial year are aimed at fulfilling the national aspiration of building a prosperous Nepal.

He added that good governance, social justice for social and economic transformation towards socialism as defined in the constitution are the main themes included in the policies and programs. Prime Minister Dahal expressed this view when responding to MPs’ amendments to the government’s policies and programs.

Prime Minister Dahal expressed gratitude for the constructive suggestions and opinions received from parliamentarians as part of the proposed amendment. “Parliamentarian Chitra Bahadur KC has presented a 16-point proposal for amendments to the proposed policies and programs, some of which require changes in language and wordings, and some of which require additional amendments,” he said, adding that the proposed amendments on health, education, labor are important policy directions nationality and foreign.

He said the government has placed emphasis on developing a self-sufficient agricultural economy, promoting entrepreneurship, infrastructure development and job creation to develop the information technology sector as a major driver of production and productivity growth.

The Prime Minister also informed the House that specific programs have been proposed for access to justice for the socially marginalized and oppressed classes.

Earlier, MP Prem Suwal proposed amendments to the proposed policies and programs on 48 points.

Prime Minister Dahal said suggestions such as economic equality, social justice, development, nationalism, foreign policy, education, health and investment promotion would be taken seriously in the proposed amendment.

“The government will insist on immediate parliamentary approval of the Khwopa College bill, and some of the amendments are in the nature of amending the Constitution and laws and therefore require discussion in parliament,” he said.

Prime Minister Dahal assured that the amendments to the proposed policies and programs received from parliamentarians will cover additional issues mentioned in the annual budget report, which the government is expected to present in Parliament on Jestha 15 (May 28).
