All Spotify Car Thing devices will stop working at the end of 2024

In February 2022, Spotify publicly released its car accessory called Car Thing. Unfortunately for Thing, it was not as successful as its creators anticipated and was discontinued the same year it was introduced. And now Spotify plans to disable all Car Thing devices at the end of 2024, so if you have one, it will work until December 9, 2024. Car Thing (RIP) Spotify was a car display that focused on letting you enjoy music and podcasts in car. However, it was not as attractive and could not do as much as Android Auto or CarPlay displays.

However, the sudden news may make some people unhappy. After all, when Spotify discontinued Car Thing in 2022, it stated that “existing devices will function as intended.” But now the situation has changed. Users have been notified about this via email and it is also indicated on the official Car Thing website.

Neither the email nor the website stated why Spotify decided to kill Car Thing entirely. Basically, Spotify’s advice is… well, get rid of the device if you have one, but be sure to do a factory reset first to protect your credentials.
