ECI publishes constituency wise data!

Amid concerns over alleged discrepancies in voter turnout data, the ECI has published comprehensive data for each of the five stages of the ongoing general election. The data includes the absolute number of votes cast in each parliamentary constituency.

In response to various demands and allegations raised by opposition parties. The European Citizens’ Initiative clarified that there were no delays in releasing voter turnout data. The commission said it had observed a trend of fabricating false narratives and malicious design aimed at corrupting the electoral process.

It said real-time data is always available to both the general public and candidates through voter turnout apps. The application is available from the moment voting begins on April 19. Provides hourly updates of final voter turnout data by midnight each voting day.

ECI said: “Voter turnout data was always available 24/7 on the easy-to-apply Voter Turnout App from 9:30 a.m. on the polling day of each phase. It publishes voter turnout estimates every two hours until 5:30 p.m. After 7 p.m., when the voting parties start arriving, the data is updated continuously. By midnight on polling day, the voter turnout app will display the best-estimate “Closing Poll (COP)” data as a percentage.

The ECI also stated that no discrepancy in the number of votes cast was possible. This came after the Supreme Court recently refused to issue directions to the ECI on an NGO’s request to send data on voter turnout at various booths.

ECI ensuring data transparency

Recognizing public demand for greater data transparency, the Commission has outlined steps to improve it. These measures are-

• Improved voter turnout app – will provide direct access to aggregated turnout data across phases, previously seen from constituency-level data.
• Improved App Features – The Android version of the app now has a screenshot feature.
• Proactive data sharing – Constituency wise voter data that was already available to candidates is now made publicly available.
• Late Night Updates – ECI currently publishes and updates voter turnout data until midnight at approximately 11:45 PM on polling days.
• Post-resurvey updates – Once the resurvey is completed, ECI publishes a third press release summarizing the final statistics for each stage.
